M-63 The Sunflower galaxy
This is a large, bright galaxy, about 10x5', extended E-W. The bright center is surrounded by a halo that fades gradually to the edges.
M63 was the very first discovery of a Deep Sky object by Messier's friend, Pierre Mechain, who caught it up on June 14, 1779.
Long exposure photography shows an amazingly intricate spiral structure.
