X Sgr is a F2 bright giant. Its brightness varies from 4.3 -4.9 magnitude every 7 days.
To the naked eye beta Sgr seems to be a double star but they have no relation. The northerly beta1 Sgr magnitude 4, shows a 7th magnitude companion.
The brightest star is epsilon Sgr, while alpha Sgr is nearly fourth magnitude. In fact, there are fourteen stars brighter than alpha.
